My name is Maria Sinclair and I am mother of two and a BSL
qualified Baby Sign Tutor.
I, like many of you wanted to use sign language with my
children. I was already qualified in British Sign Language and had seen first
hand the benefits of teaching baby sign to babies.

thought what about us working mums?
Not one to give up at the first hurdle I decided to teach
myself. During my pregnancy I set about learning as much as I could about
teaching my baby to sign, I went ahead and bought up every book, baby sign
dictionary, DVD, and
online membership I could find. I spent a fortune on flash cards and
sign language dictionaries and spent hours and hours researching baby sign language.
I read up on methods used by Joseph Garcia who is hailed as the godfather of
baby sign in America.
I took his techniques and mixed them up with British Sign Language to develop
my own methods.
I skimmed off the cream of the crop and then put what Id
learnt into practice. When my baby was born I spent lots of time teaching baby
sign to him, I also taught my family basic baby signs so they could join in. I tried all
the methods Id learnt and then added some of my own until I developed an easy
to use system that worked! My baby was signing back to me by 6 months! All the
hard work had paid off!
In short I spent a lot of time and money researching baby
sign language but what I gained from it was worth the effort ten fold.
When my next baby came along 2 years later I taught her to
sign as well and I can honestly say that
